Classic and thought provoking short stories by historical and contemporary writers will provide the stimulus for our discussion. Each fortnight a new story will be selected and copied for the participants to read in preparation for our next rendezvous. Authors writing in English from Britain, the USA, Ireland, India, Africa, and more widely will be drawn upon. James Joyce, Alice Munro, George Orwell, Ali Smith and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie are just some examples of authors who can be included. We will discuss themes, characters, plot, style, geographical and historical context, as well as whether we simply connected with or enjoyed the story.
