Would you like to improve your English by talking about movies? This course will give you the chance to watch a film every Friday evening for six weeks and discuss it with others afterwards. Course instructor Carol McGuigan is a British writer, actress and teacher now based in Berlin. She will lead the screenings and discussions in a way that will allow participants to discuss all aspects of the film screened, from the film-maker's choices and intentions, to the motivations of characters and the strengths and weaknesses of the storytelling. The course will also offer participants the chance to broaden their cultural knowledge via the films that are chosen. Each semester looks at a different thematic type or genre of film. Topics include comedy and transformation, British and US films about guilt and innocence and unusual historical dramas. The course is designed for advanced English language learners (C1 and above) as well as native speakers.
